statement.

My work acts as an evidence board of my own psyche, red string and all. To work through my OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and my incessant need to be making up stories, I create narratives and characters representing my struggles and identity. My internal world comes out in my artwork in a mix of 2D mediums such as oil, acrylic, mixed media, and film. My work is an exploration of mental interconnectedness via object symbolism and recurring characters, to tell an unsettling narrative much like a bad dream. Some of my subjects are horrific and surreal, but in a way that is entirely familiar by using iconography from my experiences in the world; such as household objects like phones, houses and doors, catholic religious imagery, and most often a recurring character named “Mr. Sinister” who often appears as a man with a wide smile. This character has been with me for years and drives most of my work, extending past the idea that he is just a character from a story by becoming his own personality and a symbol for greater concepts I explore in my work such as splitting of personal identity, dealing with intrusive thoughts, and the fear of being alive in a world that can hurt me with a body that can be destroyed.
